The Waipawa Way
Waipawa Primary School and our Community
Waipawa Primary School is a full primary school situated in the small rural township of Waipawa.
The school roll fluctuates between 130-160 students each year.
The school promotes the “Waipawa Way” and this is the foundation of our school culture of friendliness, respect, responsibility and a quality learning environment using inquiry learning- Ako and Manaakitanga.
We maximise students’ potential through opportunities to excel and succeed in sporting, cultural and academic activities - Ako and Wananga.
We encourage student leadership in the school across all ages. Students are nurtured with responsibility and expectations for older students to care for the younger students – Tuakana Teina.
Older students have opportunities to lead groups as a Student Council Representative, Maori Representative Group, Service to School Representative, House Leaders and School Ambassadors, Mentoring roles - Whanaungatanga.
The school celebrates its successful transition programme to meet the needs of our pre-schoolers moving into their next phase of learning in a primary school setting and so too for Y8’s readiness for their high school education.
The Board and staff value relationships and understand that each student’s cultural background counts - Whanaungatanga and Tangata Whenuatanga.
Our families are actively supported to belong and participate in our learning community - Whanaungatanga and Tangata Whenuatanga.
